The very reason we exist is to stay relevant and useful to the world at large. As an entrepreneur, you have taken this statement too seriously. You have assumed the responsibility upon yourself by means of self-selection and not by delegation. You want to solve a particular problem that is bugging a set of people in the world. But boy, that’s a hell of a task.
Even when your neighbor, acquaintances, ex-colleagues, teachers or even your close friends and family stop ‘expecting‘ from you, you cannot give up on yourself. That’s the oath you have taken the moment you had decided to play your own game.
Expect to matter even when the world around you might think you don’t. This is especially true if you are a first-time entrepreneur with no credible history of building value. Work doubly hard, have the humility to accept failure. Get up and get over bad decisions faster. Move on. Figure out why you failed. Network like crazy. Drop inhibitions to reach out. That stranger you met at a seminar might be more eager than you think she is to help you. Reach. Ask. And you shall get.
An expectation is a strong belief that something will happen or be the case. Hope, on the other hand, is a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen and something that Matter(v) is to be important or significant. Expect to matter!
